The basic concept of the card game is to be handed cards adding up to 21. Each player is handed two cards. When a player is dealt a nine or less and an Ace they’ve been handed a soft hand. When the black jack player receives no Ace it is referred to as a hard hand. As soon as the cards have been given to all players at the table, which includes the dealer, every black jack player is given the opportunity to make 1 of six choices:
Requesting another card (Hit): When a blackjack player says "hit me" the croupier will give them another card, if the adding of that card causes the value of the hand to exceed twenty one the player will have busted and that’s the end of the game, if the card pushes the total to twenty one the blackjack player is the winner and if the value of the hand hasn’t yet reached twenty-one they are still in the game.
Keeping the hand you’ve been dealt: If a blackjack player is happy with the cards they’ll stay. Once this has happened the dealer will display his/her cards and the blackjack player who has accumulated twenty-one or the nearest to twenty one will come away with a win.
Doubling Down: A blackjack player may request to double down which increases the bet by 100% they have placed. Once you have taken this action you can only be given one additional card. The specifics of doubling down are often specified by the blackjack table or betting house game rules so before gambling be certain you are at ease with the casino established rules. If you are wagering at a web-based casino this is usually very easy.
